Sultan Banaz, Head of Planning and Performance, Property Services
  • Why did you join Riverside?

I joined Riverside 13 years ago in a temporary admin role. Even at that stage, it felt like an organisation that genuinely cared about both its customers and colleagues. The opportunities to learn, develop and progress were clear, and that was something that really appealed to me.

  • What keeps you here?

The people, the culture and the opportunities. Over the last 13 years I've been trusted to grow and develop, progressing through a number of different roles from a temporary admin position to Head of Planning & Performance. I've been given the opportunity to build new skills, take on new challenges and develop my career in a traditionally male-dominated industry, which is something I'm particularly proud of. Riverside has always supported me to progress and reach my potential.

  • What makes your role meaningful?

As Head of Planning & Performance, my role gives me the opportunity to make a real difference to both customer outcomes and colleague experience. Whether it's improving processes, using data to drive better decisions or supporting my teams to succeed, I enjoy finding practical solutions that help us deliver a better service every day.

Kerry Rackley, Property Services Team Leader, Property Services
  • Why did you join Riverside?

I joined Riverside during the COVID pandemic because I wanted a role where I could make a real difference to customers while working as part of a supportive team. From the start, I could see that Riverside was committed to helping people and making a positive impact in the communities it serves.

  • What keeps you here?

The variety of the role and the people I work with. No two days are the same, and I enjoy the challenge that comes with working in responsive repairs. There is a real sense of teamwork within RPS, and everyone is focused on finding the best outcomes for our customers. Riverside has also provided me with a great deal of support during personal challenges and knowing that wellbeing is genuinely valued makes a real difference. The support I've received from both colleagues and managers has reinforced my decision to stay and continue developing my career here.

  • What makes your role meaningful?

Helping to ensure repairs are delivered quickly and efficiently for our customers. Knowing that good planning, communication, and teamwork can have a positive impact on someone's home and wellbeing makes the role incredibly rewarding. It's satisfying to know that the work we do helps customers feel safe and comfortable in their homes.

Knowing that the work of my team contributes to real and lasting change makes the role both fulfilling and purposeful.

Jane Payne, Service Manager, Retirement Living Services
  • Why did you join Riverside?

I joined Riverside in 2017 because I was looking for a change in career. I had always worked in childcare and wanted a new challenge while still having a role where I could support people and make a positive difference in their lives. Housing offered me the opportunity to help residents maintain their independence and wellbeing, which really appealed to me.

  • What keeps you here?

What keeps me here is the people. I enjoy working with both residents and colleagues and feel proud of the positive impact we make every day. Riverside has also provided opportunities for me to develop my skills and progress in my career, which has kept me motivated and engaged.

  • What makes your role meaningful?

My role is meaningful because I have the opportunity to make a real difference to residents' lives. Whether it's helping someone remain independent, resolving an issue that's causing them concern, or creating opportunities for residents to get involved in their communities, it's rewarding to know that the work my team and I do has a positive impact on people's wellbeing and quality of life.

Ben Hussey, Operations Manager, Responsive Repairs
  • Why did you join Riverside?

I recently joined Riverside because I wanted to work for an organisation where my experience could make a genuine difference. Riverside's values, focus on customers, and commitment to improving communities aligned closely with my own approach to leadership and service delivery.

  • What keeps you here?

I enjoy working with passionate colleagues who are committed to improving our services and supporting residents we serve. The challenges are significant, but so are the opportunities to make a lasting impact.

  • What makes your role meaningful?

Coming from a construction and operational background, I understand how important a safe, well-maintained home is to residents. Being able to support teams, I lead improve performance and ultimately deliver better outcomes for our customers makes my role within Riverside incredibly rewarding. Every improvement we make contributes to a better experience for the residents, and that's what makes my job worthwhile.

Charlene Raspin, Service Manager, Doncaster Supported Services
  • Why did you join Riverside?

I joined Riverside because I was inspired by the pioneering work being delivered through its Extra Care Schemes. As one of the first providers in the region to offer this type of service, Riverside demonstrated a genuine commitment to improving people’s lives, and I wanted to be part of an organisation that makes a meaningful difference every day.

  • What keeps you here?

During my time at Riverside, I have undertaken several roles, each of which has given me the opportunity to contribute to positive outcomes for customers and communities. What has encouraged me to remain with the organisation is that I always felt valued and able to make a real impact, rather than simply being another part of a larger system.

Most of all, I continue to work for Riverside because I genuinely enjoy what I do. For me, it is far more than just a job or a typical nine-to five role. Throughout my time here, I have never felt a sense of dread about coming to work. Instead, I feel motivated by the difference we make and the people I work alongside.

Like any organisation, there are challenging days or times, but what sets Riverside apart is the strength of support between colleagues and our passion. We look out for one another, work together through difficulties, and celebrate successes as a team and organisation as a whole. There is a strong sense of belonging and mutual respect that makes Riverside feel like more than just a workplace. I am proud to be part of an organisation that values its people, supports their wellbeing and development, and remains committed to making positive difference in the lives of our customers, communities, and colleagues.

  • What makes your role meaningful?

Riverside has a strong culture of listening to its colleagues, being passionate about their values, taking each person's views into consideration, providing support and encouragement needed for professional and personal development. It is an organisation where people are empowered to grow, contribute and play an active role in shaping the positive change for both customers and colleagues should they want to progress.

Alan Marples, Area Manager, Hull PFI Housing Management
  • Why did you join Riverside?

I joined Riverside when I was relocating due to a relationship and wanted to work for a stable, values-driven organisation. Leaving my job and home city was a significant step, so I was looking for an employer that would provide security while also aligning with my passion for homelessness services and supporting people to achieve positive outcomes.

  • What keeps you here?

I have been with Riverside for 24 years and have progressed from a Supported Housing Assistant to an Area Manager, as well as holding a number of regional roles along the way. The opportunities to develop, grow and continue learning have been a big part of why I have stayed. Just as importantly, I genuinely feel that Riverside cares about its people. I have always felt treated fairly and supported, and Riverside remains an employer that values wellbeing and provides real opportunities for career progression.

  • What makes your role meaningful?

As an Area Manager, I have less direct contact with customers than I did earlier in my career, but my role gives me the opportunity to influence and improve many lives. I am proud to support colleagues to develop their careers through training, qualifications and promotion opportunities, helping them reach their full potential. At the same time, the decisions and improvements my team and I make can positively impact the lives of more than 300 customers living in our Extra Care schemes, helping to improve their quality of life and overall outcomes.
